Los Angeles, CA - DreamWorks Studios has signed a first look deal with writer, director, and producer John Hamburg, it was announced today by Holly Bario and Mark Sourian, Co-Presidents of Production at the studio.
Deal will give the studio a first look at Hamburg’s theatrical projects over a two-year term as a writer, director and/or producer. He is currently producing the DreamWorks film “The Defenders” with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.
“John is a triple threat: writer, director and producer. He has a unique voice and can go from idea to movie all on his own,” said Stacey Snider, Co-Chair and CEO of the studio. “He’s going to be a huge asset to our company; and on a personal level, it’s deeply gratifying to be officially reunited after our collaborations on “Along Came Polly,” “Meet the Parents,” “Meet the Fockers” and “I Love You, Man.”
“John is truly a multi-talented powerhouse in our business,” said Holly Bario and Mark Sourian. “We know firsthand what great material he can bring to the screen and we’re excited to have him back in the DreamWorks family.”
“From when she first hired me on “Meet the Parents,” to “I Love You, Man,” Stacey Snider has always believed in the type of movies that I want to make,” said John Hamburg. “I couldn't be more excited to be working with her, Steven and the entire DreamWorks team.”
His new deal with DreamWorks brings him back to the studio where he co-wrote, produced and directed the 2009 hit, “I Love You, Man,” which starred Paul Rudd, Jason Segel and Rashida Jones. He also co-wrote the screenplay for “Meet the Parents,” and its sequel, “Meet the Fockers” at DreamWorks. Both were produced by the studio and co-producer, Universal Pictures, and grossed over $800 million worldwide. His writing credits also include “Zoolander,” as well as “Along Came Polly” and “Safe Men,” both of which he also directed. He most recently co-wrote and produced “Little Fockers.”
