In another sign that the spec market is exercising its muscle memory, TV writer-producer Justin Adler has sold his original feature comedy script “The Escort” to DreamWorks Studios.

With echoes of “Dutch” and “Planes, Trains & Automobiles,” the road-trip story line involves an irresponsible flight attendant who is forced to escort a 14-year-old passenger to Boston after their plane is grounded.

Even as it focuses on event-movie sci-fi features, DreamWorks simultaneously continues to build its stable of potential original comedies. Among the properties the studio’s picked up in the last year are an untitled college-set comedy from writer Chris McCoy; the workplace comedy “Forever 21” from Mike Culbert and Mike Pellettieri, with Elizabeth Banks starring and producing; the survival comedy “Cal of the Wild” from Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley; and “Substitute Husband,” a comedy pitch from Michelle McGrath and Hayes MacArthur.

Adler, who is repped by UTA and Kapital Entertainment, has been a writer and producer on “Better Off Ted,” “Samantha Who?,” “Less Than Perfect” and “Futurama.”
